New Looks of Spirit...

Hi Suland, they say that the sound quality of HDR-CX7 is crappy unless you buy an expensive Sony's proprietary hot-shoe microphone. Is it true? Can you post some clips that demonstrate sound?

Also it would be cool if you post original AVCHD m2ts files along with the MPEG2 ones, as you did with the duck clip.

Also, reviews say that the stabilizer is very weak. All reviews point at two major drawbacks of this camera: sound quality and the stabilizer. Is the stabilizer that bad? I'm choosing between it and Panasonic HDC-SD5, currently leaning towards Sony because I've heard that the Panas has problems with motion trailing artifacts (needs to be confirmed though). I don't like that Sony uses memory sticks and has bad manual controls, but I don't want to make any compromises on quality.

Hi I don't see any problems with sound quality. I am not a professional filmmaker though. But I am still sure there is no such issue. As of stabilizer quality - it's way better than HDR-HC7's. I don't have issues with that as well. This is the best camcorder I have owned so far. And I like good quality things. Sony made it great. I am sorry not putting more video clips as I don't have much free time...sorry. I will try my best to put something.

I watch your clips again and again, and I can't help noticing that they have a somewhat strange color gamma, both outdoor and indoor. This is especially apparent when I compare it with footage from Canon HG10. The sunny1.m2t looks more like a cloudy day when I watch it on my PC, other clips have slight color problems too.

Can it be that you have the x.v.Color more turned on? So that you see correct colors on your xvYCC compatible TV but I see distorted colors on my monitor? That would explain everything.

Hi again! No, i don't use x.v.Color setting. I have same thing watching on a laptop LCD monitor. But when it comes to my TV it looks brilliantly clear and not cloudy as on computer screen. I think the problem is the screen itself and it's speed... By the way, I have Sony 40 Bravia LCD I bought more than a year ago.
Hope this helps and thank you again coming here.
